Seeking manuscripts from “new and emerging talent”
Contemporary Fiction, Crime/Thriller, Fantasy, and Science Fiction all considered
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Matthew James Publishing (an imprint of Andrews UK) is pleased to announce a period of open submissions; inviting authors and agents to submit manuscripts. As always, Matthew James Publishing welcomes un-agented authors to submit their work. Submissions will open December 1st, 2023, and close on March 31st, 2024.
During this open submission period, Matthew James is seeking work from new and emerging talent with a focus on contemporary fiction, crime/thriller fiction, fantasy titles, and science fiction. We particularly welcome works from diverse and often underrepresented perspectives, LGBTQ+ stories, and stories centred around working-class characters and backgrounds.
“After a turbulent start to the year, we want to close 2023 by celebrating and encouraging new talents” says James Shaw, Publisher at Matthew James. “We want to continue to offer a platform to budding authors, especially those from backgrounds that are often underrepresented in publishing.”

As a small publisher, Matthew James is looking to grow alongside our authors. The team remains dedicated to helping all authors and their books reach their full potential, showcasing their books to a worldwide audience with the help of the wider Andrews UK team.
Matthew James Publishing is home to R.J. Mitchell’s ‘D.S. Thoroughgood’ series of Scottish crime thrillers, David Palin’s twisted board game thriller Let The Game Commence (released in paperback in February 2023), and acclaimed works from authors like Brenda Burling (‘Cancer Quips’ publishes in March 2024).
Acquired by Andrews UK in April 2023, Matthew James Publishing is looking to continue its tradition of high-quality fiction and non-fiction releases — making them available to a worldwide audience, both in print and digital, courtesy of Andrews UK’s international infrastructure. James Shaw adds: “A lot has changed courtesy of our merger with Andrews UK, but one thing that stayed the same is our passion for books and our desire to grow alongside our authors and supporters.”
The team at Matthew James is thankful for the support of our colleagues at Andrews UK and we are looking forward to reading your submissions over the coming months.
