A handbook for schools.
Young People and Loss is a teachers handbook which outlines how grief affects the lives of young people in a variety of ways. It highlights the full range of emotions experienced through the separation, desertion or divorce of parents and the breakdown of the family.
It suggests ways in which young people may move forward to an acceptance of what has happened in their lives and are able to embrace the future with hope. It encourages, where possible, positive memories of the past.
The grieving process is a complex one and every individual will react to loss in their own way. This handbook provides teachers and all those who deal with children and young people with a framework in which grief can be monitored, recognised and supported.
